Registry Books Microfilming

Registry books as a specific kind of public-private documents have existed in the area of Southern Banat since the beginning of 18th century and are among the oldest registry books in our country. Up to the year 1895 registry books were guided by the churches only (all confessions: Orthodox, Catholic, Reformatory, Evangelistic, Romanian Orthodox, Jewish). The oldest ones originated with 1716. when the territory of Southern Banat was liberated from the Turkish rule. Only in 1895, introducing registry professions as a public service, it was obligated that registry books should be guided by state services as well. In this way these data became protected by the state. According to the stated facts in the territory of five communities (in registry services) covered by the Historical Archive Pančevo 584 books are set. While making rounds it was stated that most of these books are, in a very bad physical condition, with bad covers, attacked by wet and fungus, and with the inscriptions already difficult to read.
It drove us, not taking care of the need for their treatment and conservation, to start their urgent and unalterable microfilming.
So in 1994. the microfilming of all church registry books set in the registry services of the Pančevo Community (Banatski Brestovac, Banatsko Novo Selo, Dolovo, Glogonj, Ivanovo, Jabuka, Kačarevo, Omoljica, Pančevo, Starčevo and Vojlovica) started. Once the microfilming for the Pančevo Community being finished even during 1998. the microfilming of registry books in the Kovačica Community (Crepaja, Debeljača, Idvor, Kovačica, Padina, Samoš, Uzdin) started by the help of the Oil Rafinery and the Community Administration workers. 85 books with 35.000 photo copies were filmed on the whole. The filming was finished early in 2002.
At the moment the Archive is starting filming registry books of the Community of Kovin and till the end of the year 21 books of Bavanište will be finished.
All filmed registry books were done with 16 mm rolls and, placed in a metal cabinet as a protected copy.
